Informal Use of “Marginal Open Space” Along Residential Streets in a Nigerian City

In today’s highly regulated cities, a conspicuous pattern of marginal open space has emerged between buildings and streets. With rapid population growth, different activities are also emerging in the spaces, particularly cities developing countries. This study explores informal use spaces along residential streets Ile-Ife, Nigeria, to identify physical planning implications. The data for this were mainly collected through questionnaire survey measurements. Findings established that major necessary (earning income), socio-cultural leisure pursuits. Land-use problem occurrence index (LPOI) showed significant challenges associated with an increase travel time destinations (LPOI = 4.33), littering 4.17), traffic pedestrian congestion degradation aesthetics 3.99). It is therefore concluded both positive negative effects on environments Nigerian city. adds body knowledge urban studies by empirically investigating implications everyday country.
